Mac Fonts

This page has instructions to help you install fonts on your Apple Macintosh computer. Simply chose which OS you use (Mac OS-X and later, or Mac OS-9 and earlier) and follow the simple instructions.

To install a TrueType font on Mac OS-X

All of the TrueType fonts currently on this website are save in their uncompressed, ready to install state. If you do, however, find a font for Mac's that is compressed (either ZIP for Windows Compressed Folders or SIT for Stuff-It Expander compressed folders), I have included the instructions on how to install those after how to install the fonts as found here on Goblinville. I'm hoping at some point those who created the installer utility for OS-9 will make an updated version for OS-X, but until that happens, here you go...

To install an un-compressed TrueType font on Mac OS-X:

  1. Find the font you wish to copy to your computer and install.
  2. Control-click on font name and choose "Copy linked file to desktop."
  3. Once you have the font on your desktop, change the name of the file to remove everything after ".ttf."  You see a dialogue box reading "Are you sure you wish to change the extension..." Click "Use ttf."
  4. Next, open font book application found in the applications folder.
  5. Click on plus sign at bottom of font list to add new font.
  6. Navigate to the file you just changed on the desktop, click on "Choose" and you're done.

To install a compressed TrueType font on Mac OS-X:

  1. If you do not have an expander utility for your Macintosh files, download and install Stuffit Expander.
  2. To open the ZIP distribution file, drag the ZIP file to the Stuffit Expander icon. The font files will be extracted and will appear in a subfolder; open this subfolder to view the Windows True Type font files (.ttf files). You may wish to view the documentation supplied with the font files by dragging the Readme.htm file to either the Netscape or Internet Explorer icon.
  3. Drag or copy and paste the .ttf font files to the Library/Fonts folder.
  4. To activate the fonts, restart the application - some applications may require you to restart the computer.
  5. The fonts should now be active in the font menu of your application.
  6. To create the correct output for the font, choose the font in your application.

To install a TrueType font on Mac OS-9 and earlier:

  2. Next, Click here for a converter to transform Windows TrueType fonts into Apple's version of True Type and install the font.
