Something that's fun to do a few days to a couple of weeks before Halloween is start a game of BOO! in your neighborhood. It's simple, and it's fun, even more so when you see everyone else getting in the spirit, too. It's sort of like a combination of Ding-Dong-Ditch-Em, Secret Santa and Tag all rolled into one. It's easy, it's simple and a good way to brighten someone's day. I haven't done it in years, but I'm going to restart the tradition this year.
How does BOO work? You get a few treats - it's up to you if you give one piece of candy to each recipient or more or if you toss in a little Halloween toy of some sort. I use lunch bags with a handful of candy. I print out the letter with the phantom on the reverse and staple it to the top of the bag. The letter tells the recipients what to do so they can continue the game. You then sneak up to the friend or neighbor's house after dark, leave their treat, ring the doorbell and run for cover. I've also done it where I've left it on the hood of their car or somewhere else they're sure to find it when they're leaving for work. Part of the fun is them not knowing who BOO'ed them. To make it more of a mystery, you might start the game by BOO'ing four or five people, and/or put up the Phantom sign the same evening as everyone else so they think the Phantom hit you at the same time they got hit.
